Muscle Biology Conference
Advances in Skeletal Muscle Biology in Health and Disease
The 14th Biennial Conference held on January 20-22, 2016 at the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL
The 2016 Advances in Skeletal Muscle Biology in Health and Diseases Conference was a successful collaboration of 315 scientists given the opportunity to interact with experts in various fields of muscle research. These researchers represented institutions not only from 30 different states within the United States, but also 13 countries from all over the world. In addition to the 35 presentations given by leaders in the muscle field, we also incorporated a grant writing workshop and had 150 posters presented at two poster sessions, allowing for important interactions with colleagues regarding research. Nearly half of the attendees were pre- or postdoctoral students that were able to attend because of a reduced registration cost due to several supporting sponsors, including Aurora Scientific, Pfizer, Rigel Pharmaceuticals, and DSHB, which allowed us to maximize the number of trainees in attendance. Additionally, the University of Florida contributed to more than half of the sponsorship budget due to support from numerous departments and colleges, demonstrating UF’s commitment to the area of muscle biology. Thank you to all of those who joined us for our 2016 conference, and we look forward to another productive collaboration in March 2017!
